Ukrainian Chorus Dumka of New York comes to Chicago for a special concert at the Gateway Theater at the Copernicus Center on Sunday, October 11, 2026. Conducted by Vasyl Hrechynsky, the ensemble invites audiences of all ages to experience the depth, beauty, and emotional power of Ukrainian choral music in one of Chicago’s most important cultural venues.


Founded in New York City in 1949, Dumka has devoted more than seven decades to preserving and sharing Ukraine’s rich musical heritage. The chorus has built a distinguished history through performances of sacred works, classical choral compositions, folk songs, and music that reflects the spirit and resilience of the Ukrainian people. Over the years, Dumka has appeared at major American stages and cultural institutions, including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, Madison Square Garden, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and has also performed internationally. In February 2022, the chorus reached millions of viewers when it performed Prayer for Ukraine during the opening of Saturday Night Live.


This Chicago appearance offers an opportunity for longtime admirers and first-time listeners to hear a living tradition carried forward through powerful ensemble singing.
