Grupo Niche es una orquesta de salsa colombiana conformada en 1980, reconocida por la crítica y el público por igual, como la más exitosa en América Latina durante las últimas cuatro décadas. Fue iniciado en la ciudad de Bogotá por Jairo Varela Martínez, oriundo del departamento de Chocó. Con el paso del tiempo y en busca de inspiración, decidieron viajar a la ciudad de Buenaventura en la costa del Pacífico colombiano, y finalmente, en 1983, se instalaron en Cali, en la región occidental del país, que se convertiría en su base de operaciones.
En 1990, Jairo Varela produjo «Cielo de Tambores», el álbum de mayor éxito del grupo. Canciones como «Una Aventura», «Busca por Dentro», «Se pareció tanto a ti», «Sin Sentimiento», «Cali Ají» y «Debiera Olvidarla» abrieron nuevos caminos y fueron un éxito innegable en toda América Latina. Con sus recorridos, el grupo utilizó su nueva influencia para entretener a sus compatriotas inmigrantes y a los grupos étnicos de cada país.
