Beata Halicka’s masterfully written “Borderlands Biography: z. Anthony Kruszewski in Wartime Europe and Postwar America” is the story of an extraordinary man. Zbigniew Anthony Kruszewski was a Polish scout fighting in world war II against the nazis, a prisoner of war, and a displaced person. Stranded as a penniless immigrant in post-war America, he eventually became a world-renowned academic.
Kruszewski’s incredible life is a microcosm of 20th-century history. An eyewitness of world war II, a professor, and noted political scientist. A pioneer and a leading figure in borderland studies, Kruszewski is a borderlander in every sense of the word.
