SPARKS returns to the Copernicus Center in Chicago on 5 July 2023. Their new world tour coincides with the release of their new album, “The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte” which will be released on May 26th.
“Sparks have always been one of the most original, groundbreaking and creative groups in pop and their longevity is partly down to their ability to constantly reinvent themselves,” Island Records president Louis Bloom
Learn about Sparks
In January 2021, The Sparks Brothers, an eagerly-anticipated Sparks documentary by Shaun Of The Dead/Baby Driver director Edgar Wright, premiered at Sundance. The film traces the band’s origins, history and influence, and shines a light on the fascinating working dynamic of the Maels. Subheaded ‘Your Favourite Band’s Favourite Band,’ it includes affectionate endorsements and memories from a wide array of famous Sparks devotees.
Furthermore, this most cinematic and cine-literate of bands finally realized their ambition of making a film themselves, with the Leos Carax (Holy Motors, Les Amants du Pont-Neuf) collaboration Annette, which premieres at Cannes in July. Based entirely on Sparks’ original story, music and lyrics, Annette was originally intended to be their next studio album in 2013, but has instead come to life as a screen musical starring Adam Driver and Marion Cotillard.
The career of Ron and Russell Mael is an immaculate lesson in how to stay consistently interesting for fifty years. Perhaps the best policy, for the rankled fan, is to make peace with the injustice. After all, Sparks are still here, still creating superb work.
